Rope access equipment is only as safe as the care and attention behind it. That’s why regular inspection is critical — not just for compliance, but for the safety of every technician on the ropes.
IRATA’s Topic Sheet No. 1 outlines three key types of inspection every team should follow:
- Pre-use checks – every day, every time
- Detailed inspections – at least every 6 months or as required
- Interim inspections – after heavy use or specific incidents
Even a small defect — like a worn karabiner or an incorrectly threaded buckle — can become a serious risk. Proper training, vigilance, and a clear inspection system make all the difference.
