Professional Rope Access Painting Services

Painting a metal structure is an asset protection exercise, not a cosmetic one. The coating system on structural steelwork, cladding, tanks, masts, walkways, staircases and plant enclosures is the barrier standing between the substrate and the moisture, chlorides and pollutants that will otherwise consume it.

Once that barrier is compromised, corrosion does not pause and wait for the next maintenance cycle.

The economics are unforgiving. Surface rust treated early is a straightforward preparation and recoating job. Left for a few more years, the same area develops pitting, section loss and eventually structural implications that require fabrication, replacement steel or engineering assessment.

Repainting on a planned cycle is the cheapest way to own a steel structure.

Preparation determines how Long the system lasts

Most premature coating failures trace back to inadequate surface preparation rather than the paint itself.

A high-performance system applied over loose rust, mill scale, chloride contamination or a poorly keyed existing coating will disbond regardless of how good the product is.

Our technicians prepare surfaces to the standard the specification demands. Soluble salts are washed down on coastal and industrial sites, edges and welds are stripe-coated, and existing sound coatings are assessed for compatibility and adhesion before overcoating.

Rope access on complex steelwork

Steel structures are rarely simple flat planes. Lattice frames, bracing, connection nodes, handrails, pipework and cladding junctions present a large surface area distributed across an awkward geometry, and scaffolding them completely is both expensive and, on some structures, impractical.

Rope access allows our IRATA-certified technicians to position themselves precisely where the work is, moving around and beneath structural members to reach the underside and reverse faces that a fixed platform simply cannot present to an operative. Teams rig from tested anchor points and are productive within hours, with no ground-level footprint and no obstruction to the operations continuing below.

All work is supervised by a Level 3 technician under a site-specific risk assessment and method statement.

Containment, compliance and site safety

High-level preparation and spray application generate debris and overspray that must be controlled. We use sheeting, catch nets, encapsulation and vacuum-shrouded tools as the situation requires, and manage waste in line with environmental obligations.

Our teams hold the relevant safety accreditations and work regularly on live commercial and industrial sites, coordinating with client permit-to-work systems, arranging out-of-hours or weekend working where production cannot be interrupted, and maintaining exclusion zones beneath the work area throughout.

From survey to handover

Every project starts with a close-up condition survey. Working from ropes, we can inspect the structure at arm’s length and give you an accurate picture of coating condition, corrosion extent and priority areas — often identifying that a targeted repair programme will serve better than a full repaint.

From there we agree the specification and programme, complete the work in defined phases, and hand over a full report with photographic records.

We paint and protect structural steelwork, metal cladding, balustrades, staircases, tanks, masts, bridges and plant across London and the wider UK. Contact our team today for a free, no-obligation quote.
