Rope Access Service

Industrial Rope Access Services — Onshore and Offshore

At RAIL, we deliver inspection, maintenance, repair and installation services on industrial structures across the UK and internationally.

From oil and gas platforms to wind turbines, bridges, chimneys and process plants, we keep your assets running safely and productively.

Why industrial clients choose rope access

Industrial downtime costs more than most access methods. Every hour of lost production on a rig, a turbine or a process line eats straight into the operating margin.

Rope access reduces that cost in three ways:

  1. faster mobilisation
  2. smaller crews
  3. the ability to work around live operations rather than shutting them down

Our teams can transit, rig, complete the works and demobilise in a fraction of the time scaffolding takes. And we can do it in confined spaces, splash zones and high-temperature environments where scaffold simply isn’t an option.

Industrial services we deliver from rope

RAIL technicians routinely combine rope access with industrial trade skills, including:

  1. Inspection and NDT: visual surveys, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle inspection and dye-penetrant checks on structural steel, welds and pressure equipment.
  2. Painting, coating and corrosion control: surface preparation, blast cleaning, abrasive removal and protective coating application on towers, tanks, vessels and steelwork.
  3. Welding at height: certified rope access welders for structural repairs, pipework, conduits and bracketry.
  4. Pipework, valve and flange maintenance: gasket renewal, leak repairs and routine servicing on process lines.
  5. Installation work: fitting cable trays, lighting, sensors, fall arrest systems and access equipment.
  6. Drop object surveys and made-safe works: identifying and securing loose items at height before they become hazards below.
  7. Wind turbine and oil & gas rig campaigns: full-season maintenance, blade repair and shutdown support for the energy sector.

Safety, certification and compliance

Industrial sites have layered HSE requirements, and we meet them in full. Every RAIL technician is IRATA certified, with the relevant trade qualifications (CSCS, ECITB, OPITO, GWO, MIST, BOSIET as applicable) for the sector they work in.

Every job runs from a written risk assessment, method statement and lift plan, supervised on site by a rope access Level 3.

We carry full insurance, share RAMS and certifications before mobilisation, and work in accordance with the safety management systems of major operators across energy, transport and heavy industry.

Tailored campaigns, not generic packages

Industrial work is never two of the same. Our planning team designs each campaign around your asset, your shutdown window and your budget.

We’ll mobilise small inspection crews for short surveys or full rotational teams for offshore seasons — and we’ll combine commercial cladding experience, structural repair and coating skills as the project demands.

FAQ - find out more about Industrial Rope Access Services — Onshore & Offshore

    What is industrial rope access?

Industrial rope access is a flexible, cost-effective access method used across various sectors like construction, oil and gas. This technique uses ropes and associated equipment to gain access to hard-to-reach areas. It's an alternative to traditional means such as scaffolding or cherry pickers. With certified IRATA-trained professionals at the helm, the method ensures a safe system of work while reducing risks and environmental impact.

Why choose RAIL for offshore/onshore rope access?

Choosing RAIL means opting for expertise and reliability. Our team comprises handpicked IRATA-certified technicians whose skills and knowledge are substantiated by rigorous rope access training. We ensure safe working practices in both onshore and offshore environments, adhering to industry standards. From rescue techniques to risk assessments, our array of services aligns perfectly with the demands of any industrial setting — near shore and offshore.

Is rope access better than conventional methods?

Rope access offers several advantages over conventional methods of working at height. Using ropes instead of mechanical lifts or scaffolding allows for quicker setup and less disruption to ongoing operations — ideal for projects requiring minimal impact. The technique is also incredibly versatile, from anchor points on high-rise structures to confined spaces within offshore oil rigs. Each task benefits from a tailored approach focused on health, safety, and efficiency.

How much do offshore rope access technicians cost?

The cost of rope access services depends on the number of technicians, the amount of time, and the transportation costs of any specialised equipment the job requires. Here at Rope Access in London, it is our mission statement to make our services as affordable as possible, and we’re always happy to work out a deal with a potential client. Contact us directly with the details of the task, and we’ll give you a quote, completely free of charge.
